My backyard White-crowned Pigeon is now visiting regularly (scarfing up the day jessamine berries and ignoring my natives), so I've had terrific looks. One feature that I've never seen in an illustration or photo is a distinctly red nape between the end of the white crown and the beginning of the iridescent patch. Maybe a brief breeding season adornment?
Good birding,
Susan
