During the park restoration in mid-90's, 5 freshwater ponds were created along (and east of) the dirt Nature Trail, formerly called Pond Trail. Ponds 1 and 2 are north of the restroom road, with Pond #2 being the largest. Ponds 3-5 are farther south along the trail and are smaller. Due to continued drought and evaporation, it's hard to define the pond areas now but if you look for remnant cattails and willows, you will see them. It's hard to believe that not too long ago there were Red-breasted Mergansers, teal and Pied-billed Grebes in Pond 2, Marsh Wrens around Pond 1 and King Rails in Pond 5.
