We searched Barnes high & low today with Don as our group was reduced to three because of a no show. Unfortunately we had hoped to find more warblers than were actually counted this year. It seems to be a county wide occurence this year with migrants.
Today we tried to help a Great Blue Heron that had it's foot entangled by calling the Pelican Harbor Seabird Station to come out. A nice lady named Kelli arrived and several times we tried to persuaded the GBHE to fly towards an area to capture it with no success. She asked that anyone that visits Barnes to keep an eye out for the Great Blue Heron to observe that it has not slowed down or gotten it's foot entangled with anything so they could come out for another capture attempt. Please call the Pelican Harbor at 305-751-9840 if anyone witnesses the Great Blue having any further trouble. We asked her if the Red-billed Tropicbird that was found at Crandon was still in their care. Unfortunately she mentioned that the bird is still not in good condition underweight by half of what it should be. That Sucks!
