At the forty mile bend of Tamiami Trail (US 41), just east of the boat ramp and behind the convenience store, is a very nice recently constructed covered deck. This provides a wonderful elevated and shaded observation point from which to search for Snail Kite. It's wheelchair accessible and has some benches or picnic tables as I remember. I had a group out there last week and we had three Snail Kites foraging right out in front of us. The proprietors of the store were happy to have us and said birders are welcome to use the deck. We purchased some drinks and ice cream at the store and I encourage other visiting birders to do the same. This area has always been my most consistent spot for Snail Kites, but the deck sure makes the search a lot more pleasant.
