On the evenings of May 3rd and May 5th a single Antillean Nighthawk was seen and heard over the west end of the Key West Airport. On both evenings the bird was observed before sunset, between 7:25 pm and 7:45 pm. In fact, the bird was well-lit by the sun. Common Nighthawks were also seen and heard, so careful ID is required. This area is accessed via Government Road off of Flagler Road. Be warned that the noise of planes, cars, and model car enthusiasts can make it challenging to hear the call, and on both occasions the bird appeared only briefly.
