Hi,

I'm a beginning birder, although not new to having a penchant for birds. I have just recently begun to take it more seriously as a hobby. Today, I went to A.D. Barnes Park for the second time to do some birding (the last time I went birding there was back in February). While walking around the pond, I saw several White Ibis feeding along with a single Tricolored Heron. There was also a Red-winged Blackbird singing among the reeds. The Common Moorhens that live there have two almost fully fledged chicks, which was neat.

The hardwood hammocks were a bit slower at first. I walked all the way to the end of the trail without spotting a single bird, until I saw a female Northern Cardinal being harassed by a Blue Jay. I saw four more Northern Cardinals (two of them were very bright red males) while I walked toward the exit. As I was about to leave, I saw my first ever Ovenbird 'walking' far up ahead of me. A lifer for me, as were the two Blackpoll Warblers I caught pecking at the flowers of a firebush near a building.

My greatest bird of the day, though, has to go to an osprey which I watched while waiting for the stop light to go green. The bird caught a fish right as the stop light went green -- right on time for me to watch it carry away its fish! It was a small pond on North Kendall Drive.

I never seem to be able to see as many warblers/smaller birds as many on this list seem to see, though...

Carlos
