This afternoon I walked around the campus looking for migrants while eating my sandwich. First bird I saw was a Spot-breasted Oriole as I was walking out of the OE building. Mariel and I have been seeing this Spot-breasted for the last two weeks consistently. The YB Sapsucker that spent so much time with me during lunch for the last two months seems to have moved on. It was here kind of late. I checked out the trees right in front of the greenhouse and found a small group of Warblers, some Monk Parakeets were in the tree as well. A Ovenbird worked the mulch under the shrubs next to the trees providing great looks, after spending some time identifying the Warblers I decided to head over to the lake by the main entrance on 8 st. where I had two Solitary Sandpiper which were cool to watch at a close distance. Next I walked over to the DM building pond and found some more Warblers. At the DM pond there was a rowdy bunch of Fish Crow that were being harassed by two Blue Jays and two Mockers, I sat at the pond for about ten minutes and picked up Tree & Barn Swallows, Common Yellowthroat, and Great Crested Flycatcher. From there I took a stroll through the FIU preserve where I found more warblers including Cape May, A. Redstart, BTB, Prairie, Palm, Black & White, and a beautiful Black-throated Green. Time was running out on my lunch break so I made my way back towards the OE Building where I saw the Spot-breasted Oriole again. Later Mariel and I found two Gray Kingbirds along with the usual birds, the Kingbirds were awesome to watch as the two locked bills together flying from tree to tree until they separated and flew off. Today was a nice day birding Sadowski in the morning and then FIU in the afternoon.
