I just retired and I spend a lot of time now sitting on my back porch watching the birds in my back yard. I live next to Kenwood Elementary. This morning I had what I thought was a common grackle visit my feeders ten feet away from my porch. This bird however had eyes like I've never seen, blood red is the only way I can describe them. So, I looked in my bird book to see if I could find a grackle with red eyes. The only bird I could come up with was a bronze cowbird. The pictures I see online of the bronze cowbird look very much like the bird I saw. It was only ten feet away and shaded so I know it wasn't a trick of the sun or anything. Bronze cowbirds aren't shown to be in our area, so I was wondering if there are any other birds which would have red eyes like this one did. They are so red they stand out on the bird's head against the dark background of it's feathers.
