Those who were fortunate enough to know Eddie couldn t help but be impressed by his energy, enthusiasm, and joy for life. The last time I birded with him was a few years ago when he was well into his eighties and he kept up with Wally George and the Saturday morning at Birch group for most of the two mile walk around that park. He was a World War Two veteran and crewed in a B-24 Liberator that had to ditch in the North Atlantic. He came through this all right but his hearing never fully recovered from the many hours spent in the nose of the bomber during missions. His two birding sons are Gary who when I last saw him about seven years ago was leading Wings tours and Kenneth (Kenny) who is an Ornithologist at Cornell. I ve heard Kenneth a time or two on National Public Radio as a contributor to their seasonal birding features.
