While bonefishing on the Oceanside of Elliot Key on Sunday I watched a Glossy Ibis fly in out of the Atlantic and land on the key. I saw it in the same area the next day feeding with a flock of White Ibis. I've never heard of one reported in Biscayne National. Black-necked stilts also on oceanside of Elliot which isn't too common. Last year an American Bittern flew in to Elliot mid-day. A Common Nighthawk flew in around noon on Monday and warblers and Barn Swallows trickled by. For the last two weeks Elliot has been completely plastered with Merlins and a few Peregrines. A lone juvenile, dark phase Short-tailed Hawk was around Monday. A Whip-poor-will was calling near the Homestead Bayfront boat ramp Monday night. Nothing outrageous but always thrilled to watch birds make their way back in daylight over my fave Upper Keys water.
