This afternoon (3:00pm - 5:00pm) I walked the lighthouse area and the pond trail and got 12 warbler species, with the best being Blackpoll, Cape May, and a single Blue-winged Warbler. A park ranger working working in the lighthouse compound this morning said that he had birds all around him in the mid-morning. So, birds finally seem to be arriving on our coast.
I think that birds arriving from the Caribbean are literally flying in "under the radar", that is, they are not showing up on the night-time weather radar loops because they are coming in low over the water.
My list for today is:
Black-throated Blue Warbler
Black-and-white Warbler
Blackpoll
Ovenbird
Worm-eating Warbler
Northern Waterthrush
Cape May Warbler
Blue-winged Warbler
American Redstart
Common Yellowthroat
Palm Warbler
Prairie Warbler
