Now that's something you don't see everyday. Although Masked Booby breed on the Dry Tortugas, I seldom see them up this way. I saw this one just south of Carysfort Light while anchored in 100 ft. of water. There were very few birds, both inshore and offshore, especially for this time of year. Conspicuously absent were any jaegers, which I usually see on any April fishing trip. Did see one of our uncommon Common Terns. There were plenty of Gannets flying rapidly north, while the single Masked Booby flew casually south - Splitter!
Back at Homestead Bayfront Marina there was a calling Chuck-wills-widow, and I was surprised to hear a Screech Owl from my dad's house in Hialeah while dropping the boat off, and he doesn't even live in good part!
