Actually, John Boyd's wonderful picture shows a sub-adult Black Spiny-tailed Iguana (Ctenosaura similis). On the tail, you can see double rows of small scales between single rows of larger, spined scales. The identification of this species has been confirmed by the reptile specialists at the Florida Museum of Natural History.
Unfortunately, Cape Florida has a small but growing population of this non-native species.
