Mexican Spiny-tailed Iguana (Ctenosaura pectinata) is the mystery lizard. These have been in the Key Biscayne/Virgina Key area for many, many years. They may have originated from the original Metro Zoo. A monitor lizard would have a much narrower, longer head. Key Biscayne also has Jungle Runner Lizards, Green Iguanas, Northern Curly-tailed Lizards and who knows what else.
