Actually, as the owner of 2 parrots that I obtained from reputable breeders, I would like to add my 2 cents. Many of the names that reputable breeders use ARE the genera ( got it right this time!). Most breeders and aviculturists know these birds as the "aratingas, amazonas.." and often refer to them. The common names are more descriptive of the appearance of that particular species of parrot.
As an example, mine are "Poicephalus" , commonly known as a Senegal parrot and a Meyer's parrot.

Let's not forget that our local psitticines are exotics, not natives.
let's hope for some ( native!) migrants , soon!
