A quick trip to Lucky Hammock, Annex and Hidden Lake Road on Friday produced 12 warbler species -- but all seemed to be same species (and same locations) as wintering birds. A male Rose-breasted Grosbeak was at same spot as one I photographed January 26th. The January bird was in basic plumage, female-like plumage with a slight rose bib. The bird on Friday was molting into alternate plumage and the bib was almost complete. I assume that the grosbeak wintered in the Annex.
Other birds of interest (to me): Solitary Sandpiper, Northern Bobwhite, dark-morph Short-tailed Hawk, Merlin, 2 Barred Owls, Blue-headed and White-eyed Vireos, 12 warbler species, including Magnolia, Black-throated Green, Yellow-throated, Northern Waterthrush and 2 Yellow-breasted Chats.
In Bill Baggs Cape Florida SP, migration is a trickle. Red-eyed Vireos, Yellow-throated, Worm-eating, Cape May and Prairie Warblers are slowly moving through.
