The 4000+ turkey vultures that winter in Miami-Dade County will indeed be gone to their summer nesting areas by the end of April. Dr. Shelia Gaby
did her Ph.D. work at the University of Miami under the direction of the late Oscar T. Owre
some 25+ years ago. Her thesis is available for study at the University of Miami Richter Library
but unfortunately has never been published.
They summer in the northeastern United States and Canada(from Quebec to southern Indiana). None of her 250+ wing tagged birds were ever reported from Hinkley, Ohio. She suspects that their 150 or so birds winter in Tennessee.

P.S. My former wife Elaine and I spent Christmas Eve 1978 helping Shelia wing tag TVs at the old landfill(now closed to keep the wintering gulls
from making a dayly migration across the Miami International Airport) at NW59th Street and the Palmetto. Such activities are not for the weak of stomach.
