Big Ma and I went to Okeeheelee Nature Center this morning to drop off her donation of a screech owl house for Hootie the ambassador owl. Male and female painted buntings were at the feeder about 10 am.

Then it was off to Green Cay to see Ma's other donated screech owl house that is hung on the east side of the board walk across from the chickee. No owls in it yet but, it has only been up for a few days. Besides all the regular stuff we saw a red - shouldered hawk with a snake it had just caught, plenty of newly minted common moorhens (these things are in a dead heat with baby anhingas for first place in the Ugliest Hatchling category, there may be some hope for them when they begin to mature), a banded water snake, palm and yellow - rumped warblers, marsh rabbits, black - necked stilts and, a lifer flicker for Ma.
