This weekend was the opening of the Long Key Nature Center and Natural Area which is on 157 acres in Davie at 3501 SW 130 Avenue. I visited the center this afternoon, and observed a Great Horned Owl high in a Live Oak tree. It was located near the parking lot close to the Nature Center. The owl was up the asphalt drive about 50 feet from the parking lot and the bird was in the tree on the west side of the drive. Also, at the entrance to Long Key, there is a rookery that gets loaded near sunset.
