I was at the CW yesterday, sometime after Jeff Weber, trying out a new scope, too! I did not see the Snow Goose,(nor Jeff) but I did see the other birds he mentioned in his post along with the herons (Great Blue, Little Blue, and Tri-colored), Glossy Ibis and the Wood Storks. I went back there this afternoon realizing earlier today that I left my Sibley's Guide on the ground. Luckily, I found my guide unharmed and intact. I also met Steve Paez from Kendall who was looking for the Snow Goose. Together we scoped out the place, but we found no Goose, but many other nice birds just the same.
For several months after my gym workouts, I have been checking out the wildlife in and around the lake behind the Palmetto Bay Village Center (former Burger King Headquarters). This morning I spotted a pair of Red-breasted Mergansers. This is the first I've seen them here amid the usual suspects....Cormorants, Anhingas, Coots, Pied-billed Grebes, Killdeer, Muscovy Ducks, Laughing Gulls, White Ibis, Belted-Kingfisher, Great Blue Heron, Brown Pelican, and more. For about 40 minutes I thoroughly enjoyed watching the Mergansers through the scope dive, feed, paddle, swim, bathe and preen. These are definitely my beer birds for the day. Heck, it's such a beautiful day I think I'll just celebrate all the birds I saw. Bottoms Up!
