The other day we spent the afternoon at Everglades National Park. We decided to walk the Anhinga Trail since it had been a while. Good thing we did because we had our FOTS Swallow-tailed Kite at the end of the boardwalk soaring above. We then turned to our left to capture an Anhinga eating a Walking Catfish for lunch. It was great to see the fish being tossed around and eventually swallowed. It was also nice to see that the Anhingas were able to breed successfully this year. After walking Anhinga Trail we made a quick walk through the Gumbo Limbo Trail which produced a few Yellow-rumped Warblers and a kettle of Turkey Vultures soaring right above the tree tops.

Before heading down Research Road we stopped at the Brown-crested Flycatcher location in hopes to relocate it for the bird of the day. Shortly after we arrived we were looking across where the Long Pine Key CBC had seen the BCFL on Jan 2 at a Flycatcher when we heard the BCFL "whit" calls coming from behind us. I turned to find another Flycatcher perched within the trees as the Flycatcher Angel was looking at also called out "whit". Angel kept his eyes on the first Brown-crested Flycatcher as he photographed it and I kept my eyes on the second Brown-crested Flycatcher until Angel turned to take a picture of it, confirming that there are two BCFL just as Robin suspected. Awesome!!!

We then headed down Research Road for a while. It was a little quiet although there were several Savannah Sparrows, 1 Grasshopper Sparrow and 1 Swamp Sparrow. We stayed until after sunset in hopes of finding an Owl or seeing the Lesser Nighthawk again but with no luck. A beautiful Northern Harrier was hunting before sunset. We got awesome looks and enjoyed another beautiful afternoon outdoors. The Brown-crested Flycatchers were definitely our bird of the day!

Nature is Awesome!
