Gary and I headed out in the morning inspite of the looming black clouds and a possible rainy day. We headed first to the Card Sound bridge and there saw the two Brants out on the mudflat just as reported previously! Our first lifer of the day! Another plus, the weather was clearing up and looking better by the minute. Before heading to the Everglades, we stopped by Larry Manfredi's house who graciously let us look for the Dicksissel he's been seeing there - and it showed up just long enough for us to see it. Thanks again Larry. Our second lifer for the day! We spent the day in the Everglades enjoying many of the usual birds (Paurotis Pond was full of Wood Storks and a good number of Spoonbills too). We finished the day at Mahoganny Hammock hoping to see the Barred Owls. We were not disappointed! Another couple there knew where two of them were and gladly showed us. One of the "chicks" (very large already!) was high in a tree in one area, preening itself, while one of the adults was roosting in another area inside the hammock at about eye level. What I would have given for a good camera or Trey's presence! The adult was perched where you could see the entire body from the front, with its head slightly tilted back, eyes barely closed. What an awesome sight! This finished off another great day in our beautiful Everglades!
