If lots of birds was what you were after, Flamingo was the place to be. As we pulled up the visitor center parking lot we noticed dozens of White Pelicans circling above. As one group circled and headed north, another group took its place. We watched this for about 15 minutes before heading to the water to witness the spectacle in the bottom photo. Hundreds, perhaps thousand of Willets and Black Skimmers filled the sky over the sandbar like locusts. At Echo Pond we spotted about twenty American Goldfinches. By the campground, and across the water by the mangroves, we spotted three large groups of Willets. Jody counted about 350 in one group. The group across the water looked much larger. We also counted five Swallow-tailed Kites between Flamingo and Nine Mile Pond.
