There have been two recently published newspaper articles regarding birds/birding in SW Florida that can be read online that folks might find interesting. The first is about the recent President's Day/GBBC 3-day series of birding tours out at STA-5 in Hendry County in which an American (Greater) Flamingo was present, although the article is more about this fantastic birding locale in general, rather than the flamingo. The photo gallery (check it out!) does picture the flamingo as well as Hendry-Glades Audubon member Margaret England and me. The article was published in the Palm Beach Post on February 28th by staff writer Willie Howard and can be read here:

Better photos of the American Flamingo can be viewed in my Flickr page here:

For Clewiston's GBBC's amazing totals, which include the totals for STA-5, go here:

The other newspaper article regards the continuing Lazuli Bunting coming to Lois & Leon White's feeders in Alva, Lee County, that I originally photographed and reported to the various listservs back on February 5th. This article was published in today's [Fort Myers] News-Press and was written by Roger Williams. No, not THAT Roger Williams! You can read it here:

Note: the photo of the Lazuli Bunting in the News-Press article is not the actual bird being seen at the White's feeders. The pictured bird is an adult male in breeding plumage. The White's Lazuli is an immature male.
Ironically, in the photo gallery of the Palm Beach Post article, there's a photo of me pointing out some illustration of a bird in the Sibley Guide to none other than Lois & Leon White, who happened to be out at STA-5 on the day that Willie Howard was out there gathering info for the newspaper article.
For some reason, at least on my Mac, the articles "look better" using Internet Explorer. Not so good on Firefox or Safari for some reason. . . .
