I thought that I'd heard reports of Cooper's hawks nesting south of Lake Okeechobee before but, according to John Ogden's search for information on the Internet, nothing came up. I'll pass the word on to him.
I was worried about the bird population in my yard with these hawks nesting but, according to researchers, they don't hunt near their nest sites so as not to attract attention to their own offspring. Interesting too that the resident birds in my yard seem to paying them little attention.
