I finally saw the much heraled White-tailed Kite on Government Road around 5-6 miles north of I-75-Alligator Alley, on the right side of the road between the farm with the aluminum roof and the large round storage containers. He was along the fence on the highest post. I've had them other places, but it was great to get them finally there. Crested Caracara were also seen nearby. On the nature trail boardwalk at Billie Swamp Safari was a nice mixed flock with Yellow-throated Vireo, Am. Goldfinch, Baltimore Oriole, B & W Warbler and I belive an early Blackpoll. Along CR 835 were many Westerrn Kingbirds and a Scissor-tailed Flycatcher. If you go for the Cassin's Kingbird (at sharp curve east of CR833 on CR 835 see past postings for further details) make sure you look on the south side of the canal in the large Cypress trees. Park in front of the red gate and look east. The Kingbirds fly out over the canal and land in the Cypress. The Cassin's seemed to favor a smaller tree in front of the Cypress. I was able to see both the Western and Cassin's side by side. At the Barn Owl site on the Miami Canal there was no Barn Owl, but a beautiful male mature Bald Eagle. I brought the kids along and they added happily many life birds.
