This morning I hooked up with Nancy Freedman in search of the Bananaquit. After following Larry's directions, we easily found the place arriving at 9:00AM. Several birders were already there, including Snow Goose Bonnie armed with camera and bins. Most had arrived around 8:00AM and had only seen the Spot-breasted Orioles. The windy and overcast conditions were not in our favor, but we stuck around for the downpour which lasted 5 minutes. After it stopped raining, Nancy and I saw Palm Warblers fly into the Bottle brush tree. After some pishing and a few moments later we spotted another bird that was definitely not a Palm. Nancy yelled, "Here it is! Here it is!" We and the rest of the group got great looks of the Bananaquit making its way around the beautiful red bottle brush flowers. Then the two Orioles reappeared directly behind us on the wire. I think Snow Goose Bonnie was planning to celebrate with Hot Coffee and Pancakes.
Afterwards, Nancy and I headed for Bass Pro Outlet store where we spotted 2 Black-hooded Parakeets (among a zillion Monks) fly from the spot Tricia reported seeing them a few days into a Royal Palm on the North edge of the parking lot.
