This morning I hooked up with Nancy Freedman to search for the Banaquit. Following Larry's directions we easily found the place and arrived at 9:00AM. There were several birders there already including Snow Goose Bonnie armed with camera and bins. Most people said they had been there since 8AM and spotted the Spot-breasted Orioles but no Bananquit. The windy and overcast conditions were not in our favor but we stuck around for a downpour which lasted 5 minutes. After it stopped raining Nancy and I saw Palm Warblers fly into the Bottle brush tree. A few moments later we spotted another bird with yellow that was not a Palm. Nancy shouted, "Here it is! Here it is!" At 9:30AM we, along with the rest of the group, got great looks as the Bananaquit made its way around the beautiful red bottle brush flowers. As we admired the Bananquit the two Orioles showed up again on the wire directly behind us. I think Snow Goose Bonnie was planning to celebrate with hot Coffee and Pancakes.
Afterwards Nancy and I headed to Bass Pro Outlet where we found two Black-hooded Parakeets (among a zillion Monks) fly from the spot Tricia had mentioned a few days ago to some other Royal Palms at the edge of the parking lot north of the building.
