Bull Sharks are very chunky, medium gray, and they have a rather blunt nose. Other than the general shape, they typically don't have any identifying marks, like Blacktip and Caribbean Reef Sharks do. So, if it was chunky and unmarked, and gray overall, it was probably a Bull Shark. You mention Mako Shark as a possibility, but Makos are readily identifiable by their very pointy snout, large eyes, two-tone body (dark above, light below), snaggle-toothed look, and crescent-shaped tail (nearly even above and below, instead of longer on the top like all the requiem sharks).

On the gill slits, all the sharks you'll encounter diving in Florida have five. Six- and Seven Gill Sharks are typically very deep water species.
