On a whim, I decided to visit Miami from Pensacola for the weekend. Caught a ride to Tallahassee from a buddy of mine, and then came down with two friends from FSU on a bus, arriving late last night. My parents didn't know I was coming down, and my mom was more than happy to spend some quality time with me while searching for the Bananaquit at about 12:00 today. The bird showed nicely after a short wait. Thanks Larry. Its good to be back, but I wish there was more time to make a trip to ENP for the Brown-crested Flycatcher.
Back in Pensacola last week, I chased a Calliope Hummingbird that is fifteen minutes from my school. Two weeks ago, I birded near Pensacola Beach, picking up Horned Grebes, Common Goldeneyes, Buffleheads, and a Rufous Hummingbird. I have out of the birding scene for a bit due to college life, but its good to be back!
Cheers!
Alex, who will be checking out the birds in east Texas next weekend.
