When was the blue heron chick by the Wakodahatchee gazebo born? There was a great show there late afternoon Feb. 5 when the changing of the guard had the parents in an enthusiastic and affectionate embrace. The lone chick was fed, and a young heron intruder (maybe last year's offspring?) was chased away. Three black-crowned night herons were roosting in the trees on the bank nearby, and one of the anhinga nests sported 3 newborns. Photo shows the baby heron stretching its wings.
