To add to Jeffs posting. I had a great time yesterday. Got to see a few life birds for my self. The snail kites and peregrin falcons where a great sight to see. The 2 dowitchers are still up to debate on exact spieces. Im going with short billed due to the coloring pattern on the on the flanks. But i am new and could be wrong. But they are life birds eathier or. I also discoverd what a good spot gate 15 can be. Like Jeff said their wasn't a lot in the flamingo area.
Talk to a ranger on the barred owl nesting at mahogany hammock.
She said that owl nested about 2 weeks ago and the spot she is in is where she has nested every year.
Stayed late after the group left for the evening program at long pine. Trying to learn as much as possible being as i have joined the voulenteer program. And will be starting as an interpritive and roving ranger program. Went back to the anhinga trail for a night walk to see if the alligators where bellowing again. They were not instead they where group feeding right under the board walk in a group of about 60 in one mass. You could feel them bumping the dock as the where grouping fish in to small bait balls. Their where about 3 Night herons in the area to.
Like Jeff said the highlite was the bellowing in the morning. I have included a link to some video i got of them in this activity. the link will take you directly to the video on youtube. If you have larger speakers you can turn it up and get a real scope on what it souds like when you have a large mass of them doing this.
