Perching Roseate Spoonbills

On yesterday's tour out at STA-5 in Hendry County, I witnessed something that I've never seen before anywhere in Florida. Have a look at this photo of Roseate Spoonbills perching on telephone/electrical wires. The photo was taken by Mary Ann Cecilioni of Naples and she owns the copyrights. I don't know why these birds were exhibiting this odd behavior. Possibly, due to the extremely low water levels that may have given them an added advantage in seeing their prey? Just conjecture on my part. . . At any rate, has anyone else ever seen ROSPs perched on wires before? BTW, there were conservatively well over 250 ROSPs at STA-5 yesterday -- the most we've ever seen there. Watch for my full report for STA-5 from the 02/02/2008 tour still to come.
