You won't catch any flak from me because I agree, to a certain extent, with what you're saying Brennan. There are other factors in play besides human effort though.
Regardless, I'm proposing we start our own annual birding festival in Miami-Dade County. We could do it at a time when it doesn't conflict with other birding festivals (Keys, Spacecoast, etc.). We could start off small and grow big over the years. Yes, this can be done, all we need is motivation, the rest will follow.
And by the way, whoever posted as UHBM-BAB (it's not like we don't know who it is), how about a little morale booster there buddy, you should know better. There is a lot of history behind the UHBM - Dedication, perseverance and a positive attitude are attributes of those who consider themselves part of the UHBM...putting down your home turf is not and anonymity are not.
So let's start a festival, all we need is Birds, Beers, and Binoculars, we'll invite folks from all over (only one extra room in my house) and have ourselves a good time. I'm sure we can work something out with Capt Toe and Larry Manfredi concerning pelagic tours. What do you say Larry? You in?
We'll even submit our good finds to the FOSRC with the proper documentation, make Bill happy.
