It's always good to know someone is looking at the photos you post online; however, it seems when you post bird photographs, a much more intense level of scrutiny("pixel peeping" it is called in the digital photography world) is applied--at least by some viewers, as the following email(reprinted in its entirety with permission) will attest:
Hi Joel,
I work for Audubon of Florida's Tavernier Science Center, and my husband is a regular poster on the TAS bird board...He was perusing your photo set from Merritt Island, and noticed one of our banded birds in the spoonbill group!
I need to enter the bird in our database, and just wanted to make sure of the location where it was taken. I'm assuming Merritt Island, and not Viera Wetlands, but wanted to check. Any other information about this bird or notes you took while observing it is also appreciated.
This bird, 2V, was banded on March 16, 2006 on Deer Key in Florida Bay. This is the first time it has been resighted outside of its natal colony. You can always report banded birds, and learn more about our program, on our website:

Thank you!

Apaprently the bird must have been recognized by its distinctive smile(not!), or one of the photos was greatly enlarged. Accordingly I went through the entire set of my photos of that group of birds and added one(#9412) to my general flickr site-link below-and reproduce herewith an enlargement, sharpened to the max, of the bird's knees from that photo...
I now have a rationalization for all the money spent on bird watching travel and photographic equipment--the same one I've used for years in connection with the fishing tackle and boat expenses attendant to tagging and releasing sailfish and marlin: it's all in the interests of science.....
