On my way out the door this morning in key largo I herd what i thought was a pileated, when I tracked down the call it was a northen flicker. I watched it for a few min. and listned to it make the call a few more times. I have herd it on othere mornings as well and thought maybe we had a pileated in the hardwood behind our house. Can anyone tell me if this is normal for a flicker to make this call. I know we have at leaste 3 couples in the woods behind the house. As well as some redbellied that have nested in a dead coconut palm that got hit by lightning last summer. Our area seems to attract woodpeckers. Its the same area I spotted the hairy in last year.
