Very odd bill on bird - looking for input

I apologize for this poor shot, but take a look at this bird's bill!! In the bad light I could not get too much information about its markings, but fellow birder Linda also noticed the strange bill and got a good shot several days later that she will (hopefully) forward to me for posting. In her shot the bird appears to be a Mockingbird, but this bill is just all wrong.

Any clues? I can't find anything other than a west coast thrasher that has this schnozz. Maybe a genetic fluke?
