I had the opportunity to attend the Space Coast Birding and Wildlife Festival in Titusville last week to work on improving my photography with some of the professional nature and wildlife photographers in attendance.I met many interesting people(some were even birders..)was exposed to much useful information(how much actually stuck is another matter), and got a chance to try my hand at improving all aspects of my photography in 3 field workshops--2 at Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge and one at Viera wetlands. Despite blustery and sometimes cold conditions, I took a lot of bird, animal and landscape shots , the best of which appear at my flickr site linked below. On the first afternoon, however, I paid a visit to the home of Sue and Doug Stuckey, a mere 3 minutes from the Festival site, to see their currently resident black chinned hummingbird. The Stuckeys have been graciously hosting(unannounced) visitors during all daylight hours for the last 3 weeks, and Doug gave me the guided tour. The hummer appeared and performed on cue, and I have more photos of it in my photo set linked here. If you are interested in seeing the bird, I will happily supply the Stuckey's email address to anyone who writes, so that you can ascertain whether the bird is still there before you embark on a 3 hour drive to see it. Birds seen and photographed included Florida scrub jay, turkey vultures, wood storks, ibis, reddish egrets, hooded mergansers, crested caracaras, white pelicans, snowy egrets, bald eagles, bluewinged teal, roseate spoonbills, great blue herons, and anhingas. One otter, 3 deer, many sunrise shots.
