Hi, not sure if this has been posted previously; if so, i apologize. On Friday morning, January 25, 2008, i drove past the Smooth-billed Ani location south of Ft. Lauderdale airport behind the 800 building on Old Griffin Road and was disappointed to see a tractor plowing the field where i have found the anis in the past. The very bushes where the anis once perched obligingly within feet of one's vehicle was now gone and this field was being denuded of all vegetation. Cattle egrets followed the tractor, but no anis were among them. The adjacent field, across the side road and beneath the power lines, was undisturbed, but this habitat change does not bode well for the anis at this location. i'm not sure if construction is slated for the referenced field. such is "progress". good birding! -ken archambault
