Owls were my first guess, based on the number of pellets I found beneath one of the boxes. I once helped hoist a barn owl box to the top of an old silo, but it remained unused last I heard. Those farmers would do well to put up some kestrel boxes, based on the number of them that I spot out in the EAA. (Kestrels, not farmers)
