Every so often a bird comes close enough so that identification is not in question. And once in a while the bird is totally intent on eating termites, the sun is at the right position, the battery in the camera is fully charged, the memory chip has loads of room, the proper lens is mounted, there is no one else on the boardwalk within 100 feet, and you can calm your beating heart.
When all that comes together....VOILA!
Pileated woodpecker dining fashionably on termites and carpenter ants, three feet off the boardwalk at Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary. An unbroken photo-op for twenty minutes. If I drank brew I would chum up to Paul-B & Paul-L
