Afterwards we headed out to the Private Preserve at Miami-Dade College (Kendall Campus) which is maintained by Jake Tucker. The place is open to the public every 2nd Saturday of each month as of 9:00 AM and has a lake, slash pine area and second growth hammock. Jake is often on the grounds and is very knowledgeable about plants, insects, birds and all animals in the area. We saw the following birds:
Double-Crested Cormorant
Great Blue Heron
Green Heron
Domestic Muscovy
Ring-Necked Duck
Turkey Vulture
Osprey
Cooper's Hawk
Ring-Billed Gull
Collared Dove
Mourning Dove
Ruby-Throated Hummingbird (many)
Belted Kingfisher
Red-Bellied Woodpecker
White-Eyed Vireo
Tree Swallow
Blue-Gray Gnatcatcher

Yellow-Rumped Warbler (again abundant)
Palm Warbler
Prairie Warbler
Painted Bunting (male and female feeding on path)

Spot-Breasted Oriole (immature)

The highlights for us were the Spot-Breasted Oriole, the White-Eyed Vireo (I am a vireo fan) and the Painted Buntings (lifer for one of the birders, and we got to see male and female in the open. Beautiful birds.
