The Crandon Park Zoo was, indeed, open in 1977, which was also the year I moved to Florida. We took our daughter there for a couple of years, and I believe it closed in late 1979. More to the point concerning the Great Black Hawk's origin, would a captive raptor from 30 years ago still be alive? I think that might be stretching the expected longevity of this species, especially in the wild.
