The Kendall CBC was held on December 22, 2007. Participants, working in 6 teams, enjoyed good weather and good numbers of birds. A total of 133 species were found, a new count record (by 7 species) and nine better than last year. We also had 10 species of exotics (plus 2 more Count Week), including Sacred Ibis, which appeared on last year s count for the first-ever record on any CBC in North America.

12 new species were added to the all-time count: American Bittern, Wood Duck, Snow Goose, Roseate Spoonbill, Stilt Sandpiper, Short-billed Dowitcher, Great Horned Owl, Northern Rough-winged Swallow, Carolina Wren, Louisiana Waterthrush, Shiny Cowbird, and Yellow-headed Blackbird.

We also had an additional 5 species for Count Week: Horned Grebe, Common Ground-Dove, Downy Woodpecker, Yellow Warbler, and Eastern Meadowlark.

The 5 most common birds seen: Laughing Gull (9,689), Starling (4,400), White Ibis (3,170), Ring-billed Gull (2,719), and Turkey Vulture (1,109).

24 species, including Short-tailed Hawk, were seen by every team.

Thanks to all the participants:
Team Matheson (Jeff Weber, Edith Einsbruch, Joe Barros) ; Team Deering (Roberto Torres, Matt Muller, Angel Abreu, Mariel Abreu) ; Team Black Point (Paul Bithorn, Trey Mitchell, Raul Urguelles, Dan Irizarry) ; Team Barnes (Brian Rapoza, Robin Diaz, Kathy Burkhart, Mickey Wheeler) ; Team Thompson (Bryant Roberts, Sue Schneider, Georgiana Hall, Ruth Baker) and
Team Kendall (Steven Paez, ably assisting yours truly). Also, thanks to Wil Domke for his feeder count.

I also want to thank the folks at Fairchild Gardens and Deering Estate for providing access to their fine venues to our teams, thanks to Miami-Dade County for access to sites, and to Jake Tucker at the Miami-Dade College Environmental Center for access and a tour.
