During the 15 years we lived a few blocks from the Fairchild/Matheson nexus, those mynahs were frequent and noisy visitors to a huge pine tree in our yard(along with ospreys, kestrels, a horned owl, and once a (presumably escaped) hornbill). The record number of mynahs that I counted at one time in that tree and its neighbors was, if memory serves, 17.On the other hand we were much too frequently visited by a flock of peacocks, whose collective noise(usually at 4 am or thereabouts) made the mynahs' whistling and calling seem downright symphonic. 24 was the most we counted at one time on my unfortunate neighbor's roof. And one memorable night, while having our roof retarred, a family of a dozen or more raccoons decided to visit and hold a party with the roofer's gear-creating a clanging and banging that convinced me we were being visited by clumsy extraterrestrials. Living there amidst all the creature- created noise sometimes, if only briefly, left me wondering whether, in Angel and Mariel's words, "nature is awesome"..
