Some members have inquired as to the exact location for the best view of the painted bunting show at Okeeheelee. The picture on this page shows the bird feeder location in the back of the Nature Center. The picture is about three years old and the vegetation is now considerably closed in around the feeder but otherwise it is a representative depiction of the place.

There is a nice elevated porch with some seats for those that want to just set and watch.

Photographers usually sit down on the cement where the cement meets the mulch. Courtesy is a non-negotiable here as the area is very narrow. But I have seen as many as five photographers at this site at one time and they all lived. ....the sound of cameras was like a press conference at the White House.

300 MM lens is more than enough and flash is recommended. The picture shows the old days when avaiable light was equal and intense. Now the deep shadows and filtered light can cause bad results with light meters. Half the bird can be in light and the other half in deep shadows. Not a good place to be.
