The new Sheridan Street/Pine Island Road mitigation wetlands is picking up. Over the weekend CBC and on Tuesday were Hooded Mergansers, Northern Shovelor, Lesser Scaup, Mottled Duck and Green-winged Teal. It is a good place to spot Eastern Meadowlar in the grassy fields to the west and the resident Northern harrier. It is exciting to see these birds, but the rest of these historic farm fields are destroyed for the onslaught of new houses. Lesser Yellowlegs and Wilson Snipe also present.
