About 20 birders took the park service boat to Boca Chita Key today to look for the honeycreeper. We tried hard during the hour they allowed us out there, but no one came up with anything (to my knowledge). A few people said they would take the afternoon boat back to the island; don't know what luck they had, if any. Lack of success can be a bummer to some, but it was a beautiful day on the water, the Bay looked healthy (sort of), and there were lots of other birds doing their tiny dinosaur bit. Just being there inspired me to have a celebratory libation, anyway (Tres Caballos). Life ain't too shabby, even without the fugitive azure-hued prize.
