Today I observed a Prothonotary Warbler at Castellow Hammock eating the red arils off of the seeds of Balsam Pear (Momordica charantia). Balsam Pear is that obnoxious exotic Asian vine with the orange fruits that split open to reveal seeds covered with a bright red aril. The bird was picking the aril off with its beak and consuming it. It's a jungle out there!
