This morning before my birding class, I decided to hike the L31 W Canal, which forms the eastern boundary of Everglades National Park in Homestead. It also forms the western boundary of Frog Pond WMA (Lucky Hammock) and Southern Glades WEA (the Annex). Starting at CR 9336, I hiked south about 2 miles to where the canal ends. Seen or heard along the way were the following:

Pied-billed Grebe
Double-crested Cormorant
Anhinga
American Bittern
Great Blue Heron
Great Egret
Snowy Egret
Little Blue Heron
Tricolored Heron
Cattle Egret
Black-crowned Night-Heron
White Ibis
Wood Stork
Black Vulture
Turkey Vulture
Osprey
Northern Harrier
Red-shouldered Hawk
Short-tailed Hawk (dark morph)
American Kestrel
King Rail (heard)
Sandhill Crane
Killdeer
Mourning Dove
Common Ground-Dove
Barred Owl (heard)
Belted Kingfisher
Red-bellied Woodpecker
Piliated Woodpecker
Eastern Phoebe
Loggerhead Shrike
American Crow
Carolina Wren
House Wren
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher
Gray Catbird
Northern Mockingbird
Yellow-rumped Warbler
Palm Warbler
Common Yellowthroat
Savannah Sparrow
Northern Cardinal
Eastern Meadowlark

Lucky Hammock had Sharp-shinned Hawk, Great Crested Flycatcher and Yellow-breasted Chat. A light-morph Short-tailed Hawk was at Royal Palm Hammock in Everglades National Park.
